Shelley van der Veek obtained her PhD in 2012 at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) with her thesis “A Psychosocial Perspective on Pediatric Functional Abdominal Pain: Risk Factors and Treatment”.
After postdoc positions at the UvA and Erasmus University Rotterdam, she became assistant professor at the Centre for Child and Family Studies, Leiden University, supervising a PhD project
on mothers’ and fathers’ cognitive and behavioral predictors of young children’s overweight, which includes a cross-cultural component. She is co-PI on an NWO-funded study testing the
effectiveness of a parenting intervention aimed at increasing infant’s vegetable intake during and after weaning.
